This song was written by a good friend of mine as an acoustic song that was used as a brief tag at the end of one of his albums. I recorded the song for his album and fell in love with the words. Josh writes way better lyrics than I could ever dream of doing. I decided to see if it could be arranged and worked as a punk rock song. This is the result. Another version with a different line up of the band appeared on the self titled release, but this one is the original.
lyrics
“Strings hold the sadness and I hold the strings.”
Back to the back locked door.
Turn the key and keep repeating.
Trips to liquor store.
And trips to an empty bar.
I can keep my pockets empty.
I close my mouth to keep from breathing.
But another failed attempt.
Another tally mark.
And still I have
Well I have no hopes or goals.
I can’t find my heart or soul.
I just started feeling old about yesterday.
And the morning I awake from the day after
I made myself promise you.
That I’m leaving this place.
Yeah I’m leaving this place.
And I wish that you would stop me but I know you know
That I’m a waste.
Well now the train has come and gone.
But it wasn’t be here for long
I’ll be down and out I’m done.
Cause the truth’s elementary songs.
The truth are my closing arms.
We walked right up through the mess.
I couldn’t talk so you addressed the problems.
Now we’re feeling less.
So talk to me with sleep
And sleep right next to me.
